Dynavel XR is one of two extended-release liquid preparations of amphetamine approved for the treatment of ADHD (the other is Adzenys ER. Procentra and Zenzedi are also liquid preparations of amphetamine, but they are both short-acting [3½–4 hours]). It is pro- duced by Tris Pharma, the same pharmaceutical company that produces Quillivant XR, and uses the same LiquiXR technology.
Dynavel has two advantages over other pill preparations of amphetamine:
- Dynavel XR is easier to swallow than a pill, and
- Dynavel XR is one of the better amphetamine medications for children who are very sensitive to dose. By using a dropper or a marked medication cup, the dose of Dynavel XR can be cus- tomized specifically for each child.
The biggest disadvantage to Dynavel XR is that it is expensive, about $1,370 for a month’s prescription without insurance, $340 with a GoodRx coupon. It does not come in a generic yet, and is not usually covered by insurance.
